Promoting collaborative working within the construction industry
Uniclass is a classification scheme for the construction industry, the full name of which is "Unified Classification for the Construction Industry".
It was published in 1997 by NBS on behalf of CPIC. Since then changes in the construction industry require us to look at the classification system in the light of new methods of procurement, new construction technology and new software for preparing drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
CPIC have set up a working group to share the work that is being carried out by the RICS on the new method of measurement; NBS developing a new structure for specifications and the software houses developing CAD packages for design.
The ICE have also set up a discussion forum with CPIC to expand the classification of civil engineering projecs.
